The way that people with more feminine styles are being treated currently in regards to the dress code is becoming concerning. The way that the most recent wrecking ball addressed the dress code was inappropriate, people in multiple areas of the country are struggling to feel comfortable in school spaces. The review says it is a “lenient dress code,” I think for a dress code to qualify as “lenient” it should mean that people rarely get dress-coded. I know of many people who have been dress-coded this year. They categorize the rules as “honestly pretty easy to follow,” but I think otherwise. At Seabury, the dress code says that I can’t show any “private areas” or my midriff. These rules tend to be very inconsistent and private areas are not defined, so I never know when I will get dress coded, and for what reason. They state that the dress code supports an equitable educational environment. However, is it truly equitable if the dress code primarily affects girls, and inequitably punishes those who have a larger chest? How can I “express my individuality” if the rules apply differently to me and my body than to others?
