Tokyo Sushi Bar took up residence in North Lawrence after the closing of a short-lived, but beloved, Lawrence institution, The Levee Cafe, during the pandemic.
After the announcement of a generously awarded snow day mere weeks ago, I was encouraged by a frequenter of the restaurant to give it a try in celebration. Inconspicuously located next to the levee across the river, I wasn’t surprised that I hadn’t heard of the restaurant before because, when in the area, I am often too distracted by the prospects of Massachusetts Street restaurants to venture into North Lawrence, but boy am I glad that I did.
The sushi bar, though occupying very little space, packs a punch. The prices are reasonable, the portions are generous and the food is fantastic. On the suggestion of our server, we ordered the Super Tiger roll along with the Caterpillar and Orange Crunch. All three rolls were delish, but the Super Tiger stood out in particular. The edamame we ordered as an appetizer was perfectly salted, and my friends and I were so satisfied with the experience that we came back less than a week later after the announcement of yet another snow day.
I was even more impressed the second time with the consistency in quality of the food. After trying various other rolls as well––including a variation of a Philadelphia roll and a spicy tuna––my friends and I decided that, though all were delicious, the Super Tiger was still our favorite and thanked our same kind server again for the suggestion.
With the exception of maybe a slight lack of indoor seating, I have no other complaints when it comes to Tokyo Sushi. The food, service and overall experience there are all fantastic, and I most certainly will be back––perhaps accompanying another snow day!
