As we start the beginning of the school year, we see many familiar faces as well as new ones. One of those new faces is Evan Neuman, a seventh grader who loves to play basketball and soccer. He used to be a very competitive swimmer for the swim club Ad Astra, but he also has a newly found interest, basketball: “I started to play last year and loved it,” he says. Neuman really wants to start this winter for the middle school boys’ basketball team. When asked what position he would like to play, he says, “Anything but center.” Neuman has always loved watching his teams play basketball, like the Kansas Jayhawks.
He also likes to watch the Kansas football team and is a big Chiefs fan. He really wants the Kansas football season to go well: “I really want us to win eight games this year,” he says. He also strongly hopes that the Chiefs will win the Super Bowl. Some of his other hobbies are watching the hit reality TV show “Survivor.”
Neuman is a middle child and has two siblings. He has an older brother, who is a sophomore at Free State, and a younger brother at Raintree. Neuman has known he wanted to go to Seabury for a long time. His older brother, Noah, went to Seabury a few years ago and inspired Neuman to do the same. “My brother really liked it here,” Neuman says, so he was inspired to do the same thing.
He has had a great start at Seabury: “I really like that we have block scheduling and structured learning,” he says. He has especially enjoyed faculty member Sara Asher’s class and faculty member Jenny Simpson’s class as well. He has described that everyone has been so welcoming and that he has made so many friends. Neuman has many goals for the school year: “I really want to start this year and try to get all A’s,” he says.
One thing that has surprised him about Seabury was advising. He had never heard about it before coming to Bishop Seabury. He also thinks the way we do lunch is a very different experience from other schools, but he really likes it. He really enjoys having classmates that are the same age as him. “At Raintree we have kids from all ages in the same class,” he says. Overall, we are excited to welcome him to Seabury and see everything he accomplishes this year!
