Many of us have a place that makes us feel comfy or safe. It could be your room, house, a gym to work out and much more. But what about school? Classrooms are places of learning, but they can also feel comforting. Classrooms reflect our teachers’ personalities, and many Seabury students feel strongly about classrooms that they love to spend their time in.
When asked about her favorite things in her room, faculty member Jenny Baker Powers says, “I really love the picture of Birdie when she was little … I love the two big Monstera Deliciosa plants that I have because my mom gave them to me; they used to be really little and now they are big.” Baker Powers also explains how her personality is shown in her room: “I think my room shows that I am a nurturing person; I have a lot of plants, which I have to, you know, nurture,” she says. Her expression of her persona is a great way to help decorate her room. The Student Success Center is a very calming place with comfy chairs, a couch and pillows all over the room. Her room is also very colorful and has a very clean aesthetic. Baker Power’s room is a very cozy place to do schoolwork in an undistracting environment.
Another faculty member, Haley Bajorek, expresses that her “room is very rainbow and it’s very bright. There’s a lot of color.” Explaining how her colorful room displays her personality, she says, “I think I am a bubbly person, and I’m pretty outgoing and upbeat usually … I think that’s a reflection of me.” In regards to her favorite things about her room, she says, “I personally love my blue cheesecake cow squishmallow.” This squishmallow has been a recent addition to her classroom and is a highlight of her classroom. Her squishmallows are very cozy and soft for students to enjoy.
Our Seabury faculty has also been inspired by their teachers’ rooms when they were in school, as Bajorek says, “I had an English teacher in fifth grade who had a jungle theme for her room, with vines coming from the ceiling, and … I didn’t want to model my room after her, but I wanted to be imaginative and [for it to] feel nice to be in.” Bajorek also says, “I have a friend that teaches elementary school, and her room was rainbow. I wanted to do that, but more age-appropriate.” Bajorek’s room is a very good place to hang out, and she definitely nailed her vision on how she wanted her room to look. Every teacher throughout this school has at least one thing that can really express themselves, from posters to colorful walls. Our teachers can really make the rooms in which we learn a place of comfort for all to enjoy.
Students at Seabury also love our classrooms, such as sixth grader Evie Pulsinelli. She has had a great start at Seabury, and her favorite room to hang out in is “Dr. Lady Asher’s classroom; she is really nice, and I like how she teaches.” Pulsinelli also says, “ I really like the flags of all the countries all over the room. I think it is very cool.” When asked how she would decorate her room, Pulsinelli says, “I would paint it light blue and have posters all over, [as well as] maybe plants and signs.”
Another middle school student, eighth grader Hayden Gunter also enjoys Dr. Lady Asher’s room: “I really like her room a lot; it’s really chill in there, [and] she is very nice and makes it a calm environment,” he says.
Sixth grader George Cici says, “I like Mrs. Lovett’s room. I like the arrangements and the decorations, and she is also really nice.” Cici says if he ever had a classroom, he “would like to have [a] floating bookshelf and thingies on the wall, and probably cars; I’m a car guy.” Cici says that his room at home has a car theme, so even if he cannot decorate a classroom, that is not stopping him from expressing himself at home with his room.
Personality has made Seabury a great place to learn, and to find your place and people. Whether you prefer to hang out in a vibrant classroom or just a couch by the lunchroom, Seabury has a place for you. All the rooms make the school a diverse place that is enjoyed by everyone. Seabury is filled with many different personalities and has a lot of places to hang out. All of our teachers make Seabury a safe and great environment, and we are all really lucky to have teachers with great rooms for all to enjoy.
