Middle schoolers render the school spellbound

Marie Brockhoff

The school gathered on Wednesday, January 15th for the annual spelling bee. Middle schoolers who placed in their class spelling bees competed, spelling words such as “fungi,” “deference” and “hokum.” Spellers dropped one by one until only seventh graders Eni Wintoki and Eliza Brockhoff remained. After several agonizing rounds, Brockhoff emerged victorious with a correct spelling of the word “fodder.” After the bee, Brockhoff stated that the most challenging part of the bee was “The nerves. It felt like I was going to be sick, but I wasn’t.” The school was certainly abuzz with excitement for the contest. Brockhoff will advance to the Douglas County Spelling Bee on February 1st.
