Originally from Lawrence, Steinbacher has gone all around in pursuit of finding happiness. “My parents’ deal with me was that I needed to get a sustainable degree, and then I could pursue my music. I went to [KU] and got my degree in engineering, then did a minor in music. After I graduated, I did a program at Indiana University where I was with the vocal and opera program,” she says.
However, after singing as a lyric soprano, Steinbacher came to a realization. “I was much more in love with the idea of it than the reality … it was a little lonely because you travel all the time … I wanted to start a family … so then I came back, and really pursued my engineering.”
Steinbacher started her own female empowerment engineering non-profit, which she runs in the Lawrence public schools and will be including Seabury over the summer. “There is proven a very large gap between genders in the STEM fields, and so the organization that I have works to bridge that gap,” she says.
She finds happiness in her family, books, music, crocheting, yoga and most recently, at Seabury. “I have really enjoyed what I’m learning and am just going with the flow this year and learning all of these amazing, crazy traditions.”
Seabury is feeling lucky to have this multifaceted, merry teacher join the community, and we know the good times will continue with Ms. Steinbacher on the staff.
