As many students joined the Seabury family this school year, some also joined the Lawrence community for the first time. Seventh grader Savannah Mizer has lived in Virginia her entire life, first in “Arlington and then [in] Crystal City.” She shares the differences between her two homes, saying, “In Virginia, we lived in an apartment for the last year we [were] there, and it was very busy compared to Lawrence.” Her school life in Virginia was also different as she “went to a Catholic school … for eight years … We used to have uniforms, so that’s very different, [and] I did not like uniforms. I had to go shopping for a whole new closet [coming here],” she adds. Despite that, she finds the transition “really easy. I like it a lot more; it’s just more fun,” she says.
Mizer has integrated into the Seabury community notably well. She really likes her advising with faculty member Vanessa Eicher, and she also enjoys other Seabury traditions: “I really liked the haunted house, and also, I’m excited to see what Headmaster’s Holiday is gonna be,” she says. In addition, she shares her favorite class, saying, “I really like Histography because Dr. Asher is a really good teacher.”
A very involved athlete, Mizer has “been doing soccer since I was in third grade, and I just started volleyball.” She shares that her experience with the Seabury volleyball team “was really fun,” and she has started “[doing club] volleyball with Landsharks.” Mizer is certainly very passionate about both sports: “I don’t know exactly one better, but I love them both,” she says.
Other than sports, Mizer likes “reading sometimes as long as I am not forced to do it.” She enjoys “murder mysteries. I [also] like the book ‘Because of Winn-Dixie.’ I read it a million years ago. It’s sad, but it’s really good,” she explains.
Mizer is very healthy in her food choices. “I really like sushi, [and] I really like sparkling water. It’s just good and water too.” For snacks, she likes to have “a granola bar.”
Regarding family, Mizer has three siblings: “My sister, she’s in fifth grade, and she’s coming here next year. And my two brothers are in college,” she says.
As for pets, she says, “I have a dog, and I think we’re getting another one!”
Mizer already feels at home here and will continue to enjoy and contribute to our community. She is a great member of our Seabury family, so please be friendly and get to know her better!
