As the second semester commences, there is no doubt that our sixth graders have quickly become essential pieces of the Seabury community. However, there is still much to learn and celebrate about each newer face!
Coming to Seabury from Century School is sixth grader Oliver Tuckel. When asked about the biggest difference between his elementary and middle school experiences, he says, “There wasn’t homework at my old school, so homework probably.”
He also expresses his appreciation for the unique experience of advising, saying, “My advisor is Dr. Eicher, and [my] favorite thing [is that] she’s just a good advisor [and] teacher overall.” His favorite thing he has done with his advising group is “probably the elf thing or … painting pumpkins.”
Regarding more highlights of his time at Seabury, he says, “Probably like PE and stuff, and events … The haunted house and the carnival were fun.”
Appreciating PE is no surprise, as Tuckel has gotten involved in Seahawk sports as well: “I’m doing basketball. [My favorite part is] probably just being with the team and just being able to play games and have practices and stuff like that … I [also] play basketball a lot out of school,” he says.
He is also a professional basketball fan, saying that his favorite team is “probably the San Antonio Spurs,” and his favorite player is Victor Wembanyana.
Alongside his love of basketball, he notes that his “favorite food is chicken alfredo,” and when it comes to music, he likes “more calm music, not loud.” His “favorite book is probably ‘[The Adventures of] Hugo Cabret.’”
He is an owner of four dogs, and his favorite thing about his pets is “just them being dogs.”
Considering his favorite place he has traveled, Tuckel says, “Probably Florida; Florida was fun … We had an Airbnb house on the beach, so [I enjoyed] just going swimming.”
While he did not travel over the recent winter break, he still had a great time: “My favorite part was just Christmas with my family, but with my friends, it was one of my friends’ birthday, and we went paintballing; that was fun,” he says.
Tuckel is a lifelong Lawrencian, and his favorite part about his hometown is “just the community and stuff.” Let’s continue to welcome this passionate and friendly Seahawk to our own Seabury community in the same way!
