As the school year continues, students who came at the beginning of the school year become more known throughout the school, and one of these students is sixth grader Abdul Alhafez.
Alhafez came to Seabury from Langston Hughes, and when asked what he had previously known about Seabury, he says, “I didn’t know a lot about Seabury, but I was super excited about coming here. I was treating Seabury kinda like a high-class $100,000 school, and we get served wagyu steak every day with caviar or something. That’s how I was treating it.”
Continuing with his favorite aspects of Seabury and how they differ from his old school, Alhafez says, “Seabury’s just different because it’s a private school, and it has different habits like chapel and a big morning meeting, and I feel like people know each other a lot better here.”
When asked about his favorite Seabury traditions, he says, “I like how there’s a lot of events. Specifically, the Winter Formal was super fun, and it felt super cool because I got to go to Papa Keno’s alone with my friends and walk to the Eldridge Hotel. That was probably my favorite. I’m looking forward to all the new events that I haven’t done yet … because they might be super fun.”
When asked what his favorite class is, Alhafez says, “PE … because it’s just fun.”
Following the athletics theme, Alhafez describes his extracurricular activities: “I didn’t know I was supposed to do two, so of course I did soccer, and [for] the second one, I decided to try out tennis,” he says. He is also busy outside of school, adding, “I do soccer [and] sometimes I take Arabic lessons.”
In addition to school and sports, Alhafez enjoys movies and books: “If I had to [pick a favorite] book, I’d probably pick ‘The Westing Game.’ We’re reading [it] in sixth grade [and it’s] super good. My favorite movies [are] probably the ‘Spider Verse’ movies … they add a different aspect to movies [and] the animation feels super high quality,” he says.
Alhafez is a general fan of music, saying, “I don’t really have a favorite song. I just like listening to songs.”
In addition to these interests, Alhafez enjoys traveling with his family: “We’ve traveled to a few places in the Middle East, but mainly in the summer or winter, I go to Syria to see my family. It’s super fun and the food is also really good,” he says.
As the school year continues, please continue to make our newer Seabury students feel welcome!
