While you are “patiently” waiting in line for the Snack Shack to open, hopefully, you notice the self-portraits on the wall. One of those was drawn by freshman Ella Langham, who is starting off her first year at Seabury strong. “Everyone here is really welcoming, which was not surprising, but certainly a relief,” she says of her favorite thing about Seabury.
Even though she is an only child, “I have three goats at home.” She was born in Tecumseh, Kansas, but has been living in Lawrence almost her whole life.
So far, Langham is enjoying ninth grade. “Academics wise, it’s not as hard as I was expecting. I was expecting work to be super challenging, but there’s just a lot more of it,” she explains.
Langham seems to be able to adapt quickly from one school to another. “I was at Raintree Montessori school, and I absolutely loved [it] there. Raintree … encompassed things like learning to cook, garden, farm and run a business,” she explains.
Currently, Langham is a member of Art Club. Art has been a passion of Langham’s ever since she was a kid. “Art has been a core part of my identity for a while. I think I really became interested in art in third and fourth grade. Art was something I knew I could do well and it was something I could take pride in.”
Whether you simply say hello, or admire her art, make sure you make Langham feel welcome.
