With Seabury’s largest sixth grade class ever, our middle school hallways are filled with a great many new faces. One of these new Seahawks, sixth grader Winston Schwenk, comes to Seabury from Prairie Moon Waldorf School. Regarding his transition, he says, “[Seabury] pushed me in the beginning because I wasn’t used to this much homework, so that was kind of hard, but overall it’s good.”
In terms of his favorite school subject at Seabury, Schwenk says, “[I like] Histography … because of the teacher and because of the room and because … I understand it the most.”
Schwenk has also jumped right into getting involved with Seabury athletics, joining Seabury’s middle school soccer team. He describes the games as “Good [and] really fun. It’s not as intense as my club.” Regarding other extracurricular activities, he says, “I haven’t really decided on my [other] one … I might do the play or I might do track.”
Outside of school, soccer is also one of Schwenk’s go-to activities. Bringing club experience to Seabury, he says, “I like to play soccer most of the time. I like to play with my brother too.” He also often has to balance schoolwork and other hobbies with a big soccer commitment: “I have soccer matches after [school a lot],” he says.
Beyond sports, Schwenk is also a violin player with Seabury’s Instrumental Music Class and enjoys music. While he likes certain artists, like Alec Benjamin, he generally enjoys the versatility of music, saying, “[The music I listen to] really depends; I have a lot of playlists, and I listen to a lot of songs.”
Recently, Schwenk has made a splash within the Seabury community as one of the winners of our sixth grade literary food truck fair. However, he is humble about the achievement, saying, “Well, I’m kind of surprised we won, but we were really hoping on the food [being good] because we had really bad artistic skills.” Despite this, he does share some of the creative process for the truck, saying, “We got a diaper box, and we covered it with paper, and we made a sign … and wrote quotes on the back of it.” In regard to his favorite part of his truck, he simply says, “The food.”
Schwenk brings many exciting interests to Seabury, and he has already proved himself more than willing to get involved through his extracurricular commitments. We are excited to see everything he adds to our community. Please make him feel welcome!
