After seeing his face around Seabury for four years, the Seabury community is happy to finally welcome new faculty member Trey Johnson to our exciting community. Having previously coached our very own high school boys’ basketball team in previous years, Johnson decided to dig deeper into Seabury and teach both middle school Health and high school Strength and Conditioning this year.
Johnson comes from a background in multiple sports and activities: “In high school and middle school I played football and basketball and baseball,” along with “a little bit of soccer in elementary school,” he says. With his sports history, it comes as no surprise that he is still so involved in them now, saying, “Now I play way-too-competitive adult kickball and travel around the country and play kickball tournaments.” He lives for sports.
Alongside sports, Johnson comments on his other enjoyments: “I love the Marvel movies … All the ‘Deadpool’ movies are probably my favorite,” he says. Johnson also has a unique taste in music: “I used to love Justin Timberlake. That was my jam. I’m not super big on the new hip-hop and rap today,” he says. Along with his interest in movies, sports and music, Johnson confidently comments on his superior dominance in his favorite video game: “NBA 2K, which I’m pretty sure nobody here can beat me in,” he says.
Johnson enjoys teaching his classes, saying, “My classes are fun. I’ve never taught Weights or Health. The health [class] is … a new thing. So far, the weights [class] lifts some and [also] joins in some with the middle school, so getting a combination of not only lifting but some … fun activities also.”
Johnson is excited this year: “Being around more often is pretty exciting. It’s way more enjoyable to be around people all the time instead of just three months out of the year. The staff and the students make me feel very included, so that’s fun,” he says. Johnson comments on his excitement of being at the school on a daily basis, saying, “It’ll be interesting and probably fun for me to coach basketball while I’m here at the same time; instead of having to text Coach Rios about something during the day, I’ll just be able to do it myself.”
Though he has been a part of the Seabury community for years in the past, Seaburians are happy to welcome Johnson as an official teacher to our community this year and for years to come.
