This year, Seabury welcomed a new batch of sixth graders, one of them being Leah Freed. Freed went to Raintree before coming to Seabury for middle school, and she says that “it’s a lot different from [her] old school, and there’s a lot more freedom in middle school.” Freed mentions that the main difference between her old school and Seabury is that “Raintree [is] a Montessori school and [Seabury is] a traditional school.”
Before coming to Seabury, Freed already knew fellow sixth grader Stella Hamilton Slate and seventh grader Scotty Noller-Smaczniak, and she also did a tour day to shadow here. When looking forward to the different Seabury traditions, Freed says, “Headmaster’s Holiday I’ve heard sounds pretty cool.” Freed is a smart and creative student whose favorite subject in school is math. Freed says it’s because “it’s simple and it’s the same everywhere.”
When asked about extracurriculars, Freed says, “I’m doing all of the sports besides cross country and tennis.” During this fall season, she is participating in middle school volleyball. This is Freed’s first year playing volleyball, but she enjoys most sports because she is very ambitious: “Well, I haven’t done it before, so it’s new and interesting, and I’m really competitive,” she says.
Freed enjoys multiple hobbies in her free time: “I like to draw and read,” she says. This fall quarter, she has enjoyed having art, which is one of the four subjects in CHAD, a way for middle schoolers to dip their feet into multiple electives before choosing one for high school.
Freed has a younger sister in fourth grade and a dog named Riley. She enjoys different types of entertainment, from books to TV shows to music: “I really like ‘Harry Potter,’ and ‘Stranger Things’ is pretty cool,” she says. She also “like[s] pop and … Olivia Rodrigo.”
When asked about her favorite place she has traveled to, Freed says, “[My family and I] went to the Bahamas once on a [Disney] cruise. That was pretty cool.”
Seabury is grateful to have Freed, and we are excited to see what she will do during her time here. So, if you are walking down the hallway and run into Freed, you should give her a warm welcome, because we are so lucky to have her at Seabury!
