One of the best things about Christmastime is cuddling up on your couch watching a Christmas movie. There are many to choose from, including one of my favorites, “Home Alone.”
The movie takes place in a very nice house in Chicago and is about a family about to leave for Paris for the holidays. It follows an eight-year-old boy named Kevin McCallister, a bratty kid who wishes to be alone for Christmas after getting into a fight with his family. His wish comes true when he is forgotten by his family, who were very rushed on the way to the airport, and Kevin spends the few days up until Christmas home alone. At first it’s all fun and games, until he starts wondering if maybe this was not the best decision. He does many things that he could never do before, like sledding down the stairs and going into his older brother’s room, and he even goes shopping. He has many encounters throughout the movie, like meeting an older man who he was afraid of and later finding companionship with him–and who can forget his encounter with “the robbers”? These two robbers think that his family is gone for Christmas and plan to steal from them, but little do they know that Kevin is there. He sets his house into a booby trap, making a very painful experience for them and a major highlight of the movie for everyone, except the people who are robbing Kevin’s house.
Eventually, he reunites with his family on Christmas day, showing us that family always finds each other. This brilliant film encompasses the fun of Kevin’s adventures and the sweet nostalgia of family. Another great thing is that “Home Alone” is played at Liberty Hall around Christmas, so it is very fun to go watch with friends and family. I strongly believe that this movie deserves five anchors.
