As Seahawks return from spring break, many are still reminiscing upon the recent events of this year’s Grudge Match. Each year, President and only member of the Grudge Match committee, faculty member Eric Nelson, dreams up the most incredible games for students to participate in the week prior to spring break.
Monday’s game started with Seabury’s first ever Quidditch match. While flying on broomsticks, both teams chased each other along with volleyballs as they attempted to throw and land them in hoops. As time was running out, the score was a tentative 30 to 30 when the Golden Snitch entered the game. Unfortunately, Matilda decided that it was her time to shine and claimed the Golden Snitch for herself, causing the game to end in a tie.
Following the unusual end to Monday’s game, Tuesday brought more excitement with an intellectual game, solving one of Alice Pulsinelli’s crosswords. After hours of pondering and tireless thinking, the faculty won, solving the puzzle in a record of four hours and eight minutes.
After the faculty win, students were ready for revenge when Nelson announced the next game, jousting. Students and faculty were adorned in padded armor before being escorted outside to mount their horses. Holding their lances with determination, the students came out with a win, putting the teams into a one to one battle.
After the aggressive jousting, Thursday’s game went back to a more mental side: building a rocket and taking a trip to the moon and back. The students, despite falling behind in the rocket-building, caught up and surpassed the faculty in the final moments of the race, making the score two to one.
Friday’s typical game, Battle of the Bands, was interrupted by a surprise appearance by Imagine Dragons, who ultimately won the competition between the students and faculty.
With two of the games being inconclusive, the students concluded the week with the title of Grudge Match Champions, sending them off to spring break with a new-found feeling of success.
