Over the years, Seabury’s mascot has always been a seahawk. However, students have recently been protesting for a new mascot that they think represents Seabury more: a sea pickle.
With great enthusiasm from students and faculty, Samuel Sea Pickle is the new and improved mascot of Seabury. With Sammy and Sadie Seahawk being replaced with the younger version, they are feeling saddened by this newcomer stealing all the attention.
Sammy was found crying in the SSC with Matilda and Monroe comforting him: “I feel abandoned by my family. I thought people enjoyed me as their mascot, since they would always cheer and take photos with me,” he says.
Sadie has also been experiencing the betrayal of Seabury students: “I’ve grown up here and changed a lot over the years, so I thought people would appreciate me more and want to fight for me to be here. I guess that’s not the case, though, because of how quickly the students replaced Sammy and me,” she says.
While talking about his experience at Seabury, Samuel Sea Pickle says, “Coming to Seabury has made me the happiest I’ve ever been. The students are so welcoming and love to just follow me around, asking me all sorts of questions. I love the attention so much!”
Seaburians have even given Samuel welcoming gifts: “Since I’ve arrived, I’ve received a total of 18 candy bars, 12 bouquets of flowers, 58 high fives and also 41 pencils, but I don’t have hands to write,” he says.
Samuel has brought lots of excitement to Seabury, saying, “When I found out that I was the new mascot, I couldn’t help but cry tears of joy. I feel awful that I had to replace Sammy and Sadie, but I hope they understand and support me with this new opportunity.”
